Bangladesh's
resolution on ‘Culture of Peace’ adopted in UN
Since 2001,
Bangladesh's Permanent Mission in the UN is placing the resolution every year
and it is also being adopted unanimously each year
The United Nations
(UN) General Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution titled "Culture
of Peace" proposed by Bangladesh.
According to message
received in Dhaka on Tuesday, the resolution was adopted at a meeting of the UN
General Assembly on Monday morning, reports BSS.
Along with
Bangladesh, as many as 97 countries were cosponsors of the resolution, the
message said, adding 25 countries spoke on it.
In an instant
reaction after passage of the resolution, Bangladesh's Permanent Representative
to the UN, Dr AK Abdul Momen said the main slogan of the resolution was
"Peace will come if intolerance and hatred of the people are reduced.
"Many European
countries for the first time cosponsored the resolution," Dr Momen said.
In this year's
resolution, he said, working process and code of conduct for the youths and
women have been added. Like the previous years, there were also directives for
the NGOs and civil society.
Dr Momen said despite
political warp and woof in the country and negative publicity of mass media,
the huge support of the world leaders has proved that no breach in faith in the
Bangladesh's leadership has developed.
"Secondly, there
is no alternative to the "Culture of Peace" for integrating all
people in the national development," he said.
Dr Momen said the world
leaders have pledged to work together in the Bangladesh's proposal.
"There was a
support of every continent to the resolution and the support was huge in
comparison to the past years," he added.
The resolution on
"Culture of Peace" was first placed in the UN General Assembly in
1999. Against this backdrop, the "Decade for Culture of Peace" was
observed across the world.
Since 2001,
Bangladesh's Permanent Mission in the UN is placing the resolution every year
and it is also being adopted unanimously each year.
